Sometimes you only have to see one design to fall in love with all the work of one designer. Yesterday this happened to me. I discovered an autumn/winter 2013 collection, which was based on our selves, our light side and our shadows, our dark sides. Besides this great idea, the designs were so textured, the materials were so unusual and the silhouettes were so breath-taking that there was only one possibility left for me: I fell in love.
Craig Green
The collection I fell in love with, was the collection of designer Craig Green, a Londen-based graduate from the prestigious Central Saint Martins. After graduating for his MA, he worked for designers like Walter von Beirendonck and Henrik Vibskov. When Craig gaining a lot of experience, he set up his own label: Craig Green.
De collectie waar ik verliefd op werd, is er een van de in Londen gevestigde oud Central Saint Martins leerling, Craig Green. Nadat Craig voor zijn MA slaagde, werkte hij voor ontwerpers als Walter von Beriendonck en Henrik Vibskov. Toen Craig vond dat hij genoeg ervaring had opgedaan, zette hij zijn eigen label op: Craig Green.
Craigs fundamental signature is a masculine one. He uses a lot of structure and unusual fabrics to complete his mens-wear designs and he loves to use materials in a different way. His designs are outstanding and daring. But in spite of that, Craig doesn’t create his designs for a particular public. From the moment he finished his designs it’s out of his hands who is going to wear his clothes. What Craig does know for sure, is that the person who is going to wear his designs, has to have a daring personality; not afraid to stand out and be different.
Craigs ontwerpen zijn erg mannelijk. Hij gebruikt veel structuur en ongewone materialen om zijn mannencollecties af te ronden en hij houdt ervan om materialen op een bijzondere manier te hergebruiken. Craigs ontwerpen zijn bijzonder en gewaagd. Desondanks creëert Craig zijn kleding niet voor een bepaald publiek. Wanneer hij zijn ontwerpen af heeft, is het uit zijn handen wie het zal gaan dragen. Wat Craig wel zeker weet is dat de persoon die zijn kleding zal gaan dragen, een durfal moet zijn; niet bang om op te vallen en anders te zijn.
